A Youth Congress team from New Delhi, headed by its disciplinary committee member Sajeev Joseph, on Friday conducted an inquiry here into the recent expulsion of more than a dozen Youth Congress workers by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K.V. Thangkabalu, for “anti-party activities.”
A section of party workers have been staging agitation against Mr. Thangkabalu ever since the selection of candidates for the Assembly elections. They had slammed him for contesting from Mylapore constituency though the high command had announced his wife Jayanthi as the candidate. Mr. Thangkabalu, who filed nomination papers as the ‘dummy' candidate, ultimately became the candidate as his wife's nomination papers were found faulty. His detractors found something fishy in the episode.
According to sources, the team, which met the TNCC chief first, spoke to a number of persons, including Youth Congress leaders James Prakash (South Chennai district president), Suresh (Erode district president) and Jawahar Babu (Tirupur district president). It is expected to submit a report to the high command shortly.
