Woman attacked for refusing to accept money to vote

M. Jagathambal(37) of Ambayepalayam near Pavithram Pudur in Senthamangalam Assembly segment was assaulted, allegedly by a DMK worker, when she refused to accept the money he offered to cast her vote for the party. She was admitted to the Namakkal government hospital on Tuesday.

Erumapatty police, who filed a case, said that Jagathambal and her Husband P. Murugesan are natives of Tiruchi district and were residing in Ambayepalayam. It is said that on Monday evening, the drunk DMK worker came to their house and offered Rs.500 to her and her husband for casting their vote for the party. When she refused to accept it, he attacked her.

Money returned

In another incident, residents of a village near Vasanthapuram in Paramathi Velur Assembly segment, who received money from DMK cadre on Monday night, returned it to the same persons on Tuesday morning. Election officials have registered a case of violation of the model code of conduct.
