November 04, 2009 10:45 pm | Updated 10:45 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna on Wednesday asked officials and cable TV associations to formulate guidelines within a month so that welfare measures could be extended to cable TV operators and employees.

Presiding over the first meeting of the Cable TV Workers Welfare Board at the Secretariat, she said soon after the formulation of guidelines, membership enrolment forms and other forms for availing the welfare measures would be printed and distributed to the prospective members.

“All enrolled members will be given a photo identity card. Subsequent to this, action will be taken to provide the welfare assistance requested by the members. Over two lakh people are working in this industry. We have asked the cable TV association to come out with some rules and regulations within a month so as to choose the beneficiaries,” Dr. Aruna told The Hindu. The Board was formed last year to promote the welfare of cable TV workers. A sum of Rs.50 lakh allocated in the budget for implementation of welfare measures. The members would also be eligible to avail assistance under the Dr. Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme.
