Track blast: police verifying stocks of explosives with dealers

June 15, 2010 12:23 am | Updated 12:23 am IST - VILLUPURAM:

The police are vigorously pursuing all leads in connection with Sithani railway track blast, which took place on Saturday. However, no concrete evidence has been found nor any culprits identified so far.

Police sources told The Hindu that five special teams had been formed to investigate the case. A team was scrutinising the godowns of registered dealers in explosives and quarries to verify whether there was any pilferage. Another team was visiting villages surrounding Sithani to find out if residents had come across any strangers. The landowner in whose farm a long stretch of wire connecting the explosives to the fuse carriage of an electric post was found was also questioned. One team was ascertaining the sequence of events that preceded and followed the incident from Station Masters of Mundiyampakkam and Perani stations, and also from the guard of the Salem-Chennai Egmore Express and the Rockfort Express driver.
