Tension in Tiruvannamalai

February 14, 2017 12:52 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

Amidst tight police security, the body of former AIADMK town secretary and former Municipal vice-chairman V.Kanagaraj, who was hacked to death on Sunday, was taken in a procession on Monday.

Shops in areas around his house on Sannathi Street and in several parts of the town, especially those on the way to funeral ground, remained closed since afternoon.

Despite police security, supporters of Kanagaraj set on fire the house of prime accused in the murder case ‘Funk’ Babu, who has been arrested. Two cars and two motorbikes in the locked house were gutted and fire tenders came and doused the flame.

Kanagaraj, who had considerable following in the town, was removed from the post of town secretary just before 2016 Assembly elections. According to police the motive for the murder was not political but a financial dispute.
