Telecom customer outreach programme held

Telecom customers should approach ‘Appellate Authority’ available for every service provider , said G.Muralidhar, advisor and head of regional office of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for Hyderabad region that covers Tamil Nadu, Arndhra Pradesh, Telengana and Odhisha.

He was addressing the Telecom Customer Outreach Programme here organised by TRAI to spread awareness on the regulatory mechanisms that is in place in the telecom industry. When registering original complaint with the service provider, customers should get the docket number of the complaint. If they are not satisfied with the way the complaint has been redressed they could approach appellate authority by referring to the original complaint docket number, he said.

Appeal number

“Once the appellate authority takes up the case they’ll provide an appeal number. TRAI is not a body that could take up complaints from individuals but it strives to ensure an effective complaint redressal mechanism is put in place by service provider,” he said.

PSR Murthy, Senior Research Officer, Regional Office of TRAI, said that contact details of appellate authority would be available in the start-up kit, website of the service provider and their sales outlets. The consumers can also visit the portal- www.tccms.gov.in that facilitates locating the customer care number, general information number, contact details of complaint centre and appellate authority of the service provider.

He also said that The Value Added Services (VAS) could be activated by any service provider only after getting double confirmation from customer. The demand for VAS should originate from the customer. It should not be originated by the service provider through flash message, SMS requesting yes or no replies etc.

Consumer can deactivate any VAS at any time by sending SMS to 155223, he added. They can use toll free number-1909 to completely block or partially block telemarketing calls.
