Vacation plans of hundreds of tourists to Udhagamandalam were stranded for hours at Kallar, where the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) came to halt on Wednesday after it developed a technical snag.

The train left Mettuppalayam around 7.10 a.m. with passengers packed to its capacity. On reaching Kallar, the train stopped following the technical snag.

Passengers protest cancellation

The passengers waited for the spare engine, but when that did not happen, the officials declared the service as cancelled. The irate passengers thronged the room of the station manager at Kallar protesting the cancellation. Later, the passengers were pacified by the authorities and they took private vehicles and buses to reach the hill station.
