Tamil meet marathon begins today

Students from different Universities in the State will carry a flame from Chennai and other places to Coimbatore to create awareness on the World Classical Tamil Conference, Principal Secretary for Higher Education K. Ganesan said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at the Anna University, Chennai, campus, Mr. Ganesan said in Chennai, the students of the University of Madras would start the run at 7 a.m. on Wednesday from the Assembly complex and hand over the flame on Thursday to students of Thiruvalluvar University.

On June 23, 30 students representing the student community will hand over the flame to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The run will be flagged off by Information Minister Parithi Ellamvazhuthi .

Anna University, Chennai, will also be conducting a mini-marathon from Anna flyover on Anna Salai to the Anna statue on the Guindy campus on June 16.

Around 1,000 students will participate with Mayor M. Subramanian flagging it off at 6 a.m., Vice-Chancellor P. Mannar Jawahar said.
