TN SSLC results out, two bag State first rank with 499 marks

50 students bag State second rank with a total of 498; 224 secure State third rank with 497 marks

With an overall pass percentage of 93.6 per cent, the 2016 SSLC public examination results, which were announced on Wednesday, in Tamil Nadu saw a slight increase compared to 2015 when a pass percentage of 92.9 per cent was recorded.

It was raining State ranks with 50 students bagging the State second rank with a total of 498 and 224 students securing the State third rank with 497 marks out of 500.

R. Sivakumar, a student of Noble Matric Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar and Prema Sudha, a student of Excel Matric Higher Secondary School in Rasipuram, Namakkal, bagged the State first rank with a total of 499 marks.

Of the 10.11 lakh candidates who appeared for the examinations, over 7.33 lakh secured 60 per cent and above aggregate. Last year, 7.96 lakh candidates managed to score above 60 per cent.

The number of centums in maths, science and social science too saw a dip. While 1.15 lakh students scored centums in science in 2015, only 18,642 students got centums in the subject this year.
