The suspension of Head of the Physics Department and former Vice-Chancellor in-charge of Periyar University V. Krishnakumar has been revoked by the five-member Vice-Chancellor Convenor Committee (VCCC) on Friday.
He was placed under suspension by former Vice-Chancellor K. Muthuchelian in an order signed by him on September 6, the day before his last day in office as VC, following which there were protests condemning the suspension.
On Friday, the VCCC members met on the varsity premises for their first sitting after the tenure of the former VC ended.
The order that was signed by all members of the committee was handed over to Mr. Krishnakumar, after which he joined duty immediately.
It stated that he had been reinstated to his original position. Members of the struggle committee, who organised the demonstrations, claimed that the VCCC members reportedly agreed to consider their other demand seeking cancellation of the transfer orders issued to three non-teaching staff by Mr. Muthuchelian towards the end of his tenure.
They added that based on these developments they had decided to end their agitations on Friday.
