A few heavy stones were found on the railway tracks between Vijayamangalam and Ingur stations on Thursday night.

Railway sources told TheHindu here that the driver of Kanyakumari-Mumbai Express immediately alerted the Erode station after the train hit a stone weighing 7 kg around 8 p.m.

A few minutes later, the driver of a goods train found some stones placed on the track and immediately applied the brakes.

Railway workers who were on line patrol in the area removed the stones and the train proceeded after a 15-minute stopover.

At 8.30 p.m. the driver of a goods train passing through the Ingur-Vijayamangalam section heard a loud noise as the train hit a boulder. Sensing trouble, the driver informed officials at the Vijayamangalam station.

Railway Protection Force personnel, officials from the ‘Q' branch and Superintendent of Police Jayachandran inspected the spot.

Ten days ago, a stone was found on the track on the same route. An LPG cylinder was found on the track about 8 months ago.
