Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated a Periyar memorial samathuvapuram at Pilipakuttai in Namagiripettai panchayat union.
Mr. Stalin, who distributed financial assistance and other benefits to the tune of Rs. 30.42 crore to 2,671 beneficiaries in Namakkal, said that till date the present government had given loans to the extent of Rs. 8,080 crore to 3,24,024 women self-help groups across the State.
After laying foundation for 1,601 developmental works at an estimated cost of Rs. 19.32 crore under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, he said that all the works would be completed soon. Mr. Stalin also inaugurated 7,392 works that had been completed under various schemes. Earlier he inaugurated a house constructed under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme at Iyampalayam village near Namakkal and handed over the key to a beneficiary.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi MLA, K. Nedunchelian, lauded Mr. Stalin and the DMK government and pointed out that his constituency had received various schemes worth about Rs. 50 crore. This showed that the government had been functioning for the people without any party differences. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan urged Mr. Stalin to sanction the district's long pending demand for a medical college. Deputy Speaker of the Assembly V.P. Duraisamy, Rajya Sabha MP K.P. Ramalingam and Sethumangalam MLA K. Ponnusamy also spoke.
