The Indian Spinning Mills' Association has appealed to the State government to reduce the penalty for textile mills that had drawn additional power from November 2008 to July 2009.
Association president A.R. Chinnaiyan has said in a release that earlier the mills were facing three hours power cut in the morning, restriction on peak hour consumption and use of power for lighting in the night hours.
The board used to disconnect supply for 48 hours to the units that violated these norms.
Some units had violated the peak hour restriction from November 2008 to July 2009.
Heavy penalty
Though immediate action was not taken on these mills, the board had levied heavy penalty for these units now.
Coimbatore region have large number of small-scale spinning mills that were High Tension consumers.
These units were struggling to pay the penalty.
It had also said that supply would be disconnected to those who do not pay the amount.
Mr. Chinnaiyan appealed to the State government to reduce the penalty and allow the units to pay it in instalments.
