Special teams formed to locate W.R. Varadarajan

Special teams of the Chennai Police have been formed to locate former Villivakkam MLA and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader W.R. Varadarajan.

Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said the Central Crime Branch police had registered a man missing case on February 15 based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Varadarajan’s wife. “We have formed teams to locate him…we are also coordinating with the State police to look for the former MLA in other districts,” he said.

Mr. Varadarajan was relieved from all party posts recently. According to police sources, he left a note behind that his laptop and books be given to the ‘ Theekathir’ daily and cash balance in two bank accounts be given to the party. CPI(M) State Secretary G. Ramakrishnan, on Thursday met the Director General of Police asking for immediate action to trace the whereabouts of Mr. Varadarajan.

A press release issued by the party said Mr. Varadarajan had been missing from the evening of February 11 and had left behind only two unsigned letters.

His wife had filed a police complaint but as he had not been located, the party’s State Committee had represented to the Chennai Police Commissioner on February 14 asking for immediate action, the release said.
