Self-immolation bid by woman over Jayalalithaa arrest

S. Chitra Devi, an AIADMK sympathiser, has sustained hundred per cent burns

A 23-year-old woman set herself ablaze at N. Mukkulam near Narikudi in Virudhunagar on Friday. It is alleged that she was upset over the arrest of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case. The incident took place at around 6 a.m.

S. Chitra Devi, an AIADMK sympathiser, sustained hundred per cent burns and was taken to a private hospital at Aruppukottai, from where she was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.

Police said she is married to Senthil Kumar and has two children aged 3 years, and 7 months.
