Security arrangements for R-Day celebrations

Elaborate security arrangements are in place for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 throughout the State, Director General of Police Letika Saran said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner's office in St. Thomas Mount on Monday, where she took part in Pongal celebrations, the officer said that between 50,000 and 70,000 police personnel would be on duty all over the State on that day.

Ms. Saran that in addition to this, Swift Action Group policemen would also deployed in Chennai city, its suburbs and other cities of Tamil Nadu.

Policemen of the suburbs and their families, including children, took part in various competitions. Ms. Letika Saran also distributed prizes to winners of the various competitions.

Suburban Commissioner S. R. Jangid and V. Varadharaju, John Chelliah, Annie Vijaya and G.Karthikeyan, Deputy Commissioners, were also present on the occasion.
