Search operations against anti-socials and anti-national elements, including Naxalites, if any, will continue in the Western Ghats between Kodaikanal and Periakulam blocks in Theni and Dindigul districts, according to K. Radhakrishnan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order).

Talking to reporters after presiding over an annual review meeting with police officers of both the districts near here on Tuesday, he said that surveillance would be intensified in villages on and near the Western Ghats, along Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, in these districts.

The STF personnel, who are camping in Periakulam and Kodaikanal blocks, will do their work in the allotted areas as usual. Superior officers will constantly monitor their work, he said. “More vigilance committees will be constituted at villages on hills.”

Briefing about the outcome of the review meeting, the ADGP said that performance on crime detection by the police in both districts was good. Crime detection rate was high. Still, there were some long-pending cases.

Suitable instructions had been given to Superintendents of Police in both districts and Deputy Superintendents of Police in respective divisions to complete all pending cases quickly.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also directed police officers to prepare the ground for the forthcoming Assembly elections and briefed them on handling election work effectively.
