Charging that Tamil Nadu was “on the “path of destruction” on all fronts, including law and order, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Monday asked partymen to refrain from grand celebrations during her birthday on February 24 and to do something to ‘mitigate the sufferings of the poor.’

In a statement here, the former Chief Minister alleged that the ‘power cut situation, lack of law and order and price rise’, among others, had affected people badly.

“At a time when the State is on the path of destruction in many departments, I urge partymen not to engage in any grandeur or festivities to celebrate my birthday. They should rather involve themselves in useful things like providing medical services or feeding the poor,” she said.

With a year to go for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, ‘the glorious days of AIADMK rule will come soon and let us reserve the celebrations for then’, she added.
