Ramadoss questions omission of judge’s name

February 07, 2017 12:59 am | Updated 12:59 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tamil Nadu’s representation should not come down in the appointment of Supreme Court Judges, PMK founder Ramadoss said.

The Collegium led by Chief Justice of India J.S. Khehar has recommended four High Court Chief Justices and an High Court judge for elevation to the Supreme Court. They are Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Naveen Sinha, Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Chhattisgarh High Court Chief Justice Dipak Gupta, Kerala High Court Chief Justice M. Shantanagouder and Karnataka High Court Justice S. Abdul Nazeer.

In a statement, Mr. Ramadoss said it was disappointing that name of Paul Vasthakumar, who is from the state and Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court does not feature in the list, despite the fact that he has pronounced some land mark judgements such as making it compulsory for banks to give student loans, ban on granite quarries in hilly region, among others.

He said qualified persons did not get a chance and urged that the remaining three vacancies should be filled and Tamil Nadu should be given importance.

Mr. Ramadoss said that the Centre and Supreme Court should ensure that all vacancies were filled in one go.
