Pattali Makkal Katchi on Tuesday said that government employees of a particular caste denomination were being singled out for transfers in Pennagaram Assembly constituency, where by-election is due following the death of a sitting MLA.

In a release, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said that though the Election Commission had postponed the Pennagaram poll date, the ruling party was indulging openly in activities aimed at securing votes. Roads were being laid and senior officers were camping in the constituency to set right any problems that people might have. The Election Commission did nothing to prevent the ruling party from taking undue advantage of the situation, he said.

Officials were also ordering selective transfer of government staff, who, in their opinion, might stand in the way of the ruling party winning the by-poll. He wanted the Election Commission to instruct the State Chief Secretary to cancel such transfer orders.

Dr. Ramadoss warned that if such selective transfers did not stop immediately, his party would be forced to launch a State-wide agitation.
