Over 40,000 tax assessees make use of special counters

More than 40,000 Income Tax assessees made use of the Special Return Receipt Counters opened for a specific period at different places in the last few weeks, said Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Prema Malini Vasan on Friday.

This year, the Income Tax Department opened Special Return Receipt Counters at eight places instead of three last year. They were opened at Southern Railway Headquarters, ICF, Heavy Vehicles Factory (Avadi), Tidel Park, Chennai Airport and Ashok Leyland. Last year, 18,000 assessees made use of the facility.

Talking to The Hindu , Ms. Vasan said: “We received more than 40,000 returns from the salaried class. This year, salaried employees made utmost use of the special counter at the airport. We also got good response from Ashok Leyland employees.”

To help the salaried class employees file their returns before the due date, the department will open 40 special counters at the Aayakar Bhavan for four days from July 28.
