OP ward starts functioning in Tiruvarur Collectorate complex

Out patients ward started functioning from the new building constructed as part of the Government Medical College at the collectorate complex at Tiruvarur from Thursday.

The building was constructed at a cost of Rs. 8.50 crores. M. Chandrasekaran, District Collector, inaugurated the new ward and patients were attended to by doctors.

The Collector later told presspersons that the Medical College is coming up at a cost of Rs. 100 crores. A 300 bed hospital, central laboratories, administrative buildings, college buildings, hostels are under construction. Out of them out patient ward building has been completed and services inaugurated on Thursday.

All the out patient services except emergency services which were provided at the district headquarters hospital will now be provided in the new out patient ward. To help people, Transport Corporation is operating 50 schedules of bus services from Tiruvarur bus stand to the Collectorate from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The OP will function from 7 a.m. to noon and also in the afternoon.

Indian Medical Council team is expected to visit the hospital and college in March. After that it will give its approval. Later the college is expected to function from this year onwards. The Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin will inaugurate the Medical College.

John Louis, District Revenue Officer, Ramakrishnan, Dean of Medical College participated in the function.
