“There is no need for bifurcating Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee is for a united State,” said TNCC president K.V. Thangkabalu here on Saturday.

Describing the demand for bifurcation of the State, raised by some ‘groups’ as ‘unjustified’, Mr. Thangkabalu said the demand was based purely on caste basis and questioned where the need was for bifurcation, when there was uniform development in the State.

Addressing newsmen here, Mr. Thangkabalu said the party high command had appointed former MP Mallu Ravi as the returning officer for party elections in the State. The returning officer would meet the State and district-level office-bearers of the party, MPs, and MLAs at Satyamurthi Bhavan here on December 22.

Regarding the election schedule for the party elections, Mr. Thangkabalu said the high command had fixed December 31 as the last date for the enrollment of members. After that, there would be a scrutiny of application forms following which the list of Congress members would be displayed in party unit offices and in the party website. All party workers would be given photo identity cards. Elections would be held from the booth to the State level.

Regarding elections in the Youth Congress, Mr. Thangkabalu said about 15 lakh members had joined the Youth Congress and the election schedule to various posts in the youth wing would be announced shortly.

Earlier, hundreds of workers from other parties joined the Congress in the presence of Mr. Thangkabalu.
