Nine held for bribing voters

Static Surveillance Committees in Thevaram and Chinnamanur raided two areas and arrested nine persons on charges of bribing voters on Saturday. A sum of Rs. 33,300 was seized from them, said Collector A. Karthik.

In the first raid, the team arrested K. Suruliraj (29) of North Street and seized Rs.1.300 from him. They also arrested three others — V. Chandrasekar (57), P. Chandran (39) and A. Andavar (43) — and seized Rs.15,000 in cash from them, and also seized Rs.17,000 from V. Murugan (42), and P. Senthil Kumar.

Three persons, including Chinnamanur 17th ward councillor M. Ramar, his brother M. Lakshmanan, and A. Sathish, were arrested on the charges of bribing voters. A sum of Rs.900 was seized from R. Parvathiammal (60), and Rs. 450 from B. Jaya of Chinnamanur.

The Collector has issued a warning that stern action will be initiated against those who bribed voters and also those who received cash for casting their votes.
