A total of 26 mentally challenged people, including 6 women, deserted on the roads of Vedaranyam to Kodiakkarai would find a new lease of life, after being identified for treatment and rehabilitation on Tuesday in the presence of Collector C.Munianathan.

These identified, deranged persons would be taken to Kilpauk hospital in Chennai for treatment, after complying with all legal formalities.

A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the High Court by Rajendran, a lawyer seeking administrative intervention for treatment and rehabilitation of such mentally challenged destitutes. In pursuit of this, a meeting was held earlier by the District administration.

In compliance with the High Court directives, the district administration aided the local youth, who had taken up the initiative on their own accord.

M. S. Mujib Shareik, District Organiser, Friends of Police, along with volunteers Senthil Murugan,, Muruganantham, Shakthi Kumar, Venkatesh and Ahmad Barik had organised and volunteered for this act of goodness.
