Balamurali (23) of Babasahib Street, Kancheepuram, an accused in a murder case, was murdered here on Tuesday night. Two men, one of them a friend of the victim, were arrested by the police on Wednesday in connection with the murder.

According to police, the victim, Balamurali; his wife, Nazeerabanu; and brother-in-law, Sadam Hussain; were identified as the accused in connection with the murder of a woman, Bhavani of Little Kancheepuram, at a house in Nimanthakara Street, Big Kancheepuram, in February 2010.

Bhavani, a friend of Nazeerabanu, was murdered by the later with the help of her husband and brother, since Bhavani tried to persuade Nazeerabanu to have ‘illegal intimacy' with her (Bhavani's) husband, Dhayalan.

While, Sadam Hussain was remanded to judicial custody soon after the murder, Balamurali and Nazeerabanu went into hiding. During that period, Balamurali's friend, Raja of K.T.S.Mani Street, Mamallan Nagar, Kancheepuram, had reportedly extended financial assistance to the couple.

However, the couple was arrested in June last year and remanded to judicial custody. Both of them came out on bail three months ago.

Meanwhile, a wordy duel broke out between Balamurali and Raja at the mofussil bus stand at around midnight here on Tuesday night when they met there to consume alcohol. Balamurali allegedly refused to return the money provided to him by Raja earlier and challenged him. Enraged by this Raja and his friend, Arunkumar of Thirukalimedu, stabbed Balamurali with a knife at around 12-45 a.m.

Police rushed to the spot and sent Balamurali's body to the Government District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigations led to the arrest of Raja and Arunkumar on Wednesday, the sources added.
