Muchukunda is said to have brought Lord Thyagaraja from heaven to Tiruvarur.

According to Meera Krishnan of the Prakiriti Foundation, restoration of the Murals, which were in a dilapidated condition, was undertaken by the Prakiriti Foundation over the past three years.

Now the work has been completed and the Mandapam will be opened on January 26.
