Two children who were missing from an orphanage near Eraniel were rescued on Monday afternoon near a temple at Midalam.

According to police, the siblings went missing from Yesuvin Thiru Iruthaya Karunai Illam, Murasancode, on Sunday night.

A special team of police was formed to trace the children. Based on a tip off, the team rushed to Midalam, where they found the siblings near the temple with their mother.

The children belong to Kattunayakkan community selling beads in temple festivals.

The orphanage admitted the children a few years ago, as the parents were unable to maintain them.

The siblings were studying in St. Mary’s Primary School near the home in Murasancode. It was alleged that they were admitted to the home against their wish, hence, they ran away. The children were produced before a court.

As per the order of the magistrate, the children were handed over to the District Child Welfare Committee by the police. V. Venkatraman, District Child Protection Officer, told The Hindu that there was no information from the police about the incident so far.
