Memorial pillar for Annadurai to mark centenary: Karunanidhi

A pillar in memory of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai will be unveiled at the entry point of Kancheepuram town on September 26 to mark the centenary celebrations of the leader.

This was stated by M. Karunanidhi, Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, in a statement on Saturday.

On the evening of September 26, a function would be held in Nazarethpet in Kancheepuram for the presentation of Mupperum Vizha awards. Mr Karunanidhi would be given the Anna award; K. Veeramani, the Periyar award, Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigal, the Kalaignar award and V.C. Kulandaisamy, the Bharathidasan award.

In the morning, a session devoted to poetry would be held and prizes for toppers in higher secondary examinations and winners of different contests given away.

Mr Karunanidhi said these events would be organised by the DMK. On Tuesday, (September 15), the State government would hold a function to mark the conclusion of the celebrations, the Chief Minister said, adding that he and Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan would garland the statue of Annadurai in front of Valluvar Kottam in Chennai on the same day.
