Customs officials at the Chennai airport have contacted Yusuf, belonging to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, following the recovery of 10 riflescopes along with a consignment of household goods at the airport on Saturday. The riflescopes of German make were in the name of Yusuf, whereas the consignment of household goods had been sent from Dubai to T. Vijayan of Tamil Nadu. Yusuf has been summoned to clarify his position.

Following the recovery of the riflescopes, the Chennai police had contacted its counterparts in Uttar Pradesh, the ADG ( Law and Order and STF), Brij Lal told reporters here on Wednesday. The riflescopes were an undeclared item. He said the riflescopes could be fitted into any type of rifle and had a range of 400 to 500 metres. Mr. Vijayan had stayed in Dubai for a year and was entitled for relief in customs duty in his capacity as ‘transfer residency passenger.’

He was contacted by Mass Cargo Company, which has an office in Chennai, on February 12 for transporting the consignment of household goods to Chennai.
