Mallar Nadu to contestin 21 constituencies

March 25, 2011 02:48 am | Updated 02:48 am IST - MADURAI:

Mallar Nadu, the political organisation of Mallar Ilakkiya Kazhagam, is contesting from 21 constituencies in the Assembly election. The first list of its candidates was announced by its founder president Suba. Annamalai here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, he said that at a time when every major community was given adequate representation, Devendra Kula Vellalars (Pallars) who form a major portion of the State's population had been sidelined by major Dravidian parties. The party would not field candidates in constituencies where fellow community leaders, John Pandian and Pasupathi Pandian, would be contesting. But the party would give moral support to these candidates.

“We will work for the defeat of parties that denied us an opportunity to flourish politically. In the election campaign, we will highlight how none of the demands of Devendrars were fulfilled by the State Government.”

Dismissing the populist manifesto of both the Dravidian parties, he said they were for generating jobs and giving financial assistance to unemployed youth rather than giving freebies. The New Agricultural Policy must be set into action to revive the agriculture sector.

The party's candidates are: S.M. Settu – Srirangam; M. Muruganandam –Athoor; P. Rajkumar - Madurai East; Suresh - Manamadurai (R); Suresh Mallar – Thiruvadanai; Vijayasekar – Vedasandur; K. Muniasamy – Srivilliputtur (R); Meghala – Kadayanallur; Chelliah Pandian – Tenkasi; and Chinnakkani - Vilathikulam.
