Putting up a brave face amid desertions from her party to DMK, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Thursday claimed that a “majority” of workers from the ruling party were ready to join her in “the interest of the nation“.

“A majority of DMK workers are ready to join AIADMK in the interest of the nation. This will be revealed soon. With the tireless working of AIADMK workers, it is sure that AIADMK will come back to power,” she said.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said the party was founded by her mentor, the late M G Ramachandran, against the DMK, and “true loyalists, therefore, will not join hands with them.” With Assembly polls scheduled for next year, AIADMK has lost several key leaders in the last few years including former ministers and influential local leaders S. Muthusamy (Erode), Anitha S. Radhakrishnan (Tiruchendur) and T. M. Selvaganapathy (Salem) among others.

AIADMK’s legislators Radhakrishnan and Rajendran have also turned dissidents.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said people of the State were facing a lot of difficulties due to power cuts, skyrocketing prices and water scarcity, besides “deteriorating law and order situation.”
