Losses of transport corporations up: Minister

Transport Minister K.N. Nehru on Tuesday told the Assembly that total losses of State transport corporations had gone up to Rs.1,000 crore from Rs.700 crore. Replying to AIADMK member R. Viswanathan, he said that the government had increased the wages of transport workers and offered bonus to them. The DMK government bought 15,000 new buses after assuming office.

The transport corporations, during the AIADMK regime, had a total of 16,000 buses. To another question by Congress whip Peter Alphonse, he said the government had not reduced bus services because of lack of adequate diesel reserve in transport corporations.
