AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Monday said that instead of wasting time on issuing statements about the false cases against her, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should concentrate on addressing issues such as power crisis, law and order, increase in the price of essential commodities, unemployment, drinking water crisis and agriculture crisis.

In a statement here, she said the cases were foisted on her out of vendetta and to eliminate her from politics. “The courts will take care of the cases.”

Ms. Jayalalithaa said the Chief Minister had no right to criticise her when the law and order situation in the State was deteriorating. Even police officers were scared of rowdies. “In the last four days alone there has been a series of murders.”

Stating that rise in prices of essential commodities was a major cause of concern, she said hoarding and smuggling of essential commodities was the reason for the trend.

She alleged that Tamil Nadu had become cauldron for anti-social elements in the four-year-rule of the DMK.
