The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is conspiring to unleash violence at an election meeting to be addressed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Chennai on Tuesday, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa alleged on Monday.

She was addressing a meeting to canvass votes for the party's Madurai North Assembly constituency candidate, A.K. Bose, on Monday.

“The DMK is trying to seek political mileage out of the violence by accusing the AIADMK and its allies for it,” she said, and asked the Election Commission to intervene and take necessary steps.

She condemned the DMK for indulging in violence and atrocities, especially in Madurai. “Two DMK cadres hurled bombs at an AIADMK functionary, Kumar, who had complained against the distribution of money in Madurai on Sunday. The region is now tense,” she said.
