Houses of former DMK Minister and relatives raided

The flying squad of the Election Commission of India raided the residence of the former State Information Minister and DMK candidate V. Mullaivendan and his relatives at Harur in Dharmapuri district on Thursday afternoon.

Based on a tip-off, a team of Flying squad attached to Harur Police Station raided the residence of Mr. Mullaivendan, DMK town secretary Mullai Chezhian and also former MLA Vedammal.

Just before noon the team raided the houses of Mr. Chezhian and Ms. Vedammal and found nothing.

The squad started searching the residence of Mr. Mullaivendan after obtaining a search warrant from a local court.

Tension mounted when the team reached the residence of Mr. Mullaivendan. His supporters resisted the officials from discharging their duty initially. After showing the warrant, the squad was allowed inside the residence.

The raid started about 2 p.m. and lasted till 4.30 p.m. The officials found nothing objectionable in these raids. This created panic in the town for some time.
