House pattas distributed to Narikuravas

It is imperative that under privileged children have access to proper healthcare and prompt education for them to face the challenging future. It is better to stay put in one place and develop than wander about to earn bread but loose the children’s well being, District Collector J. Uma Maheswari told a select group of Narikuravas here.

Taking a liking to the innocuous children of Narikuravas from Karur district who all admired her grace, poise and thoughtfulness even as their parents profusely thanked the District Collector for her gesture of granting free house site pattas for 45 Narikurava families at Thirukkampuliyur village in Krishnarayapuram taluk in Karur district.

``We have been selling needles, beads and garlands besides traditional items since our birth, wandering from one place to another in search of buyers and bread. We were very concerned about the health and education of our wards. When we see other children going to school we yearned that one day our children too could attend classes like others. Now the District Collector has paved the way for that by granting free house site pattas for us,’’ they all said as one.

The 45 Narikurava families got the free house sit pattas, each worth Rs. 16,250 and more than that the promise from Dr. Uma Maheswari that the district administration would help them in getting group houses under any of the government schemes, roads and protected drinking water facility.

``In all the worth of the house site pattas came to around Rs. 7.13 lakh and the 45 families would now get a roof at the Thirukkampuliyur village, education for children and social safety for the future. The district administration and the State Government were doing all they could for the benefit of the downtrodden and the marginalised. The present gift for the beneficiaries was granted under the aegis of the Department of Backward Classes Welfare. Narikurava community members need social support and official help for them to come up in life,’’ Dr. Uma Maheswari said.
