Hindu Munnani functionary hacked to death by a gang

December 05, 2010 11:35 pm | Updated 11:35 pm IST - DINDIGUL:

The Hindu Munnani town secretary, Thangapandian (27), was hacked to death by a five-member gang at R.M. Colony on Saturday night. He had deep cut injuries on the head, neck and hands. Five persons have been arrested.

Theni Superintendent of Police (in-charge for Dindigul) V. Balakrishnan told reporters here on Sunday that Murugesan (28) and Periasamy (25), relatives of Thangapandian, were among the arrested.

Ten cases were pending against Murugesan with the Dindigul west police station.

The assailants came in three motorcycles and attacked Thangapandian with lethal weapons while he was waiting near a tea shop.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Thangapandian had a dispute with Murugesan over selling of ancestral property.

He was also not living with his wife, who is a relative of Perumalsamy. Personal enmity could be the reason behind the murder, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

This was the second murder in the town and fourth in the district within three days. A murder accused was done to death before north police station on Friday and another murder accused and his father were hacked to death near Palani main bus stand on Saturday evening.
