The Madras High Court on Monday ordered notice on a petition filed by the wife of a person sentenced to life imprisonment in the Coimbatore serial blasts case, seeking to transfer him again to the Coimbatore Prison from Chennai Prison.

A Division Bench, comprising Justices C. Nagappan and P.R. Shivakumar, said the notice would be returnable in a week. In a habeas corpus petition, Samsunisha (32) of Karumbukkadai, Coimbatore, submitted that her husband, Mohamed Ansari (41), was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Special Court for Exclusive Trial of Bomb Blast Cases, Coimbatore, in the serial blasts case.

She submitted that Ansari was detained in Coimbatore prison for the last 13 years. On July 10, he was forcibly taken and lodged in the Central Prison, Puzhal near here. He was a heart patient and was also a diabetic. After her husband's arrest, she was living under the protection of her brother.

When Ansari was in Coimbatore, she was able to meet him once or twice a week.

She prayed the court to issue a direction to the authorities to produce her husband before the court and to transfer him from Chennai Prison to the Central Prison at Coimbatore.
