Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs.25 crore more for taking up restoration works in Nilgiris District, battered by recent rains.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi ordered release of the money from Disaster Relief Fund for repairing damaged highways, electrical installations and various other works by different agencies such as the local bodies and Public Works departments, an official release said on Wednesday.

The hilly district last month bore the brunt of monsoon fury which claimed over 40 lives and caused numerous landslips, damaging houses, roads and rail line.

The release said a team of ministers as advised by the Chief Minister had camped in the district and ensured that relief measures reached the affected people.
