Farmers stage demonstration

August 07, 2010 08:30 pm | Updated 08:30 pm IST - KRISHNAGIRI:

Members of Tamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam staged a demonstration here in protest against the distraint proceedings initiated against seven farmers by a nationalised bank at Uthangarai recently.

In a statement issued by vice-president of the Sangam K.M. Ramagounder, the Sangam condemned the act of the bank officials using goondas to seize the tractors bought by the farmers from the bank loan.

He also alleged that the officials used the duplicate keys, handed over by the farmers at the time of obtaining loan, and took the tractors.

The association urged the authorities to stop the distraint proceedings against farmers failing which the association would lay siege to the banks, the statement added.
