A bag of explosives and detonators found abandoned in a bush here along the Neravy to Karaikal road was secured by the Police on Tuesday. The bag was secured after one of the detonators exploded, when handled by a person.

A bag containing 20 packets of 100 gms of explosives and an equal number of detonators were found lying in a bush. According to sources, the bag was spotted by three workers inspecting a water leakage in the spot on Monday evening. After informing their employer, they had left if untouched. However, one of the persons had reportedly handled one of the detonators on revisiting the site on Tuesday morning, when it exploded. The person suffered minor injuries in his hands.

According to Collector N. Vasantha Kumar, the explosives, marked as manufactured by Tamil Nadu Explosives Limited are commonly used across sand and stone quarries. However, experts would arrive from Tiruchi and Puducherry to inspect the haul, Mr. Vasantha Kumar told The Hindu .
