Collector C. Kamaraj releasing the draft electoral rolls in Madurai on Thursday.(Left) Corporation Deputy Commissioner K. Tharpagaraj and (right) Assistant Collector training N. Venkatesh are seen.

A fortnight-long special camp (beginning from July 1) to include all eligible names in the electoral rolls was launched for the benefit of all left out voters.

Releasing the draft electoral rolls for 10 Assembly constituencies (Melur, Madurai East, Sholavandan, Madurai North, Madurai South, Madurai Central, Madurai West, Tirupparankundram, Tirumangalam and Usilampatti) in the district here on Thursday, the Collector, C. Kamaraj, said that 1,479 enquiry officers were entrusted with the job of door-to-door verification, which was carried out during December 2009 and January 2010, covering 2,042 polling stations.

Apart from deletions and additions, new voters who had attained 18 years of age, were also included in the list.

A total of 1,49,634 names were included in the voters' list, while 1,45,269 names were deleted for various reasons and 56,598 corrections were carried out against the applications received during the two months. Thus, a total of 12,653 voters' names figured in the draft rolls. The voters' ID cards were issued to 99.64 per cent of the eligible voters. Any change in the address appearing on the card could be carried out by submitting a new form at the corporation/panchayat/ municipal offices.

Post offices

Mr. Kamaraj said that public should submit their forms (which are available at the respective government offices, polling stations, municipalities and panchayats) individually before the officers concerned with all relevant information. For instance, Form 6 shall be filled by new applicants (those who had completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2010, meaning those born before January 1, 1992) and by those who had shifted from some other constituency to the present address. For deletions, Form 7 shall be used. To carry out amendments in the voter list, Form 8 shall be submitted and Form 8 A shall be used for change of address in the same Assembly constituency.

Bulk filing of applications or submission by any other representative would not be accepted, he replied to a pointed query. Select post-offices in the respective polling stations would accept the forms from public even on July 10 and 11 as well. The last date for submitting filled-in forms was July 16, he added.
