Don’t tarnish her image, says techie’s father

A day after the gruesome murder of 24-year-old S. Swathi, her father K. Santhanagopalakrishnan, questioned the need to unnecessarily speculate on the motive behind the murder of his daughter.

“When no one can bring back the departed soul, why tarnish her image and indulge in character assassination,” he asked. The family chose to speak exclusively to The Hindu, to put to rest several rumours that were being circulated in the media. He said the family was cooperating with the investigation.

A software engineer employed at Infosys, Swathi was murdered by an as-yet unidentified assailant at the Nungambakkam railway station on Friday.

The family was upset that though Swathi’s identity card and wallet were found at the crime scene, no one came forward to inform them about the incident earlier.

“Around 8 a.m. my brother was performing his morning puja, when a constable came home and informed him about the incident,” said Swathi’s uncle K. Govindarajan.

The incident should be a lesson in improving safety for women.
