Thoothukudi: Members of Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association, Thoothukudi, staged a demonstration on the premises of Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, protesting against introduction of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for students to pursue courses in medicine.

P. Kumaran, president of the Association, who led the agitation, said the Centre should also scrap National Exit Test (NEXT) for medical graduates. He said the authorities planned to create a National Medical Commission against the interests of the doctors after doing away with Medical Council of India (MCI).

The protesters raised slogans urging the Union Government to withdraw NEET and fulfil their other demands.

R. Moses Paul, secretary, and S. Vijaya Ragavan, treasurer, were among those who took part in the agitation.
