Defamation case filed against Nedumaran

April 21, 2011 11:43 pm | Updated 11:44 pm IST - CHENNAI:

A complaint of criminal defamation has been filed in the court of the Principal Sessions Judge here against P.Nedumaran, president, Ulaga Tamizhar Peramaippu (UTP), for allegedly defaming Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

In his complaint, City Public Prosecutor M. Shahjahan stated that Mr. Nedumaran issued a statement, which was published on April 17, as though the Chief Minister was indulging in malpractice between the dates of polling and announcement of results of the Assembly elections.

Even without understanding the basic concept of administration, Mr. Nedumaran made the remark only to defame Mr. Karunanidhi.

The prosecutor prayed the court to take the complaint on file and punish the UTP leader for offence punishable under section 500 IPC.
