Deepa Jayakumar, the niece of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Tuesday said that she would announce her decision on entering politics on February 24, which coincides with her late aunt’s birth anniversary.
Speaking at a press conference, she said that the police had denied her permission to meet with the public.
On the elevation of V.K. Sasikala as the AIADMK Legislature Party leader, she said only a democratically elected person should be the CM. When told that she was as much a novice as Ms. Sasikala, she countered: “Unless I am given an opportunity, how I can prove myself?”
Although she said she would contest in the elections, she added that she didn’t think it was necessary to contest in the same constituency as Ms. Sasikala.
She also expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation given by Jayalalithaa’s doctors regarding the treat ment provided to her.
