Chief Minister and DMK leader M. Karunanidhi addressed a series of road-side campaign meetings in Salem district on Friday urging people to think of the good governance of the DMK government and vote for the party to continue the welfare and development activities, which it undertook in the last five years.
After leaving Erode where he addressed a public meeting on Thursday evening, he addressed a meeting at Komarapalayam in Namakkal district and later entered Salem district at Sankagiri where he campaigned for Agriculture Minister and Salem District DMK secretary Veerapandi S. Arumugam, who is contesting against his niece and AIADMK candidate Vijayalakshmi Palanisamy in Sankagiri Assembly segment.
He also addressed a series of wayside meetings at Magudanchavadi, Kakapalayam, Periyaseeragapadi, Ariyanur and Tiruvagoundanur seeking support for the candidates of the DMK-led alliance. He said that DMK would continue all the welfare schemes.
A public meeting was held at the Bose Maidan here later in the evening in which alliance leaders including TNCC president K.V. Thankgabalu took part.
He also introduced the candidates of Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri.

Meanwhile, Mr. Arumugam condemned the regulations of Election Commission of India (ECI) here.
In a press release, he said that everyday new regulations were brought in by the ECI which, he said, had prevented the political parties from executing their democratic responsibilities at the time of elections.
“Even flags are not permitted atop the houses of party cadres,” he further said.
