Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate for the March 27 by-election to Pennagaram Assembly constituency P. N. P. Inbasekaran on Friday filed his nomination papers.

He was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Veerapandi. S. Arumugam and Food Minister A. V. Velu.

Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Arumugham said the measures taken by the DMK government to control the prices of essential commodities would ensure the victory of the party in the by-poll.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had been initiating several steps like waiver of loans, supplying grocery and provisions through fair price shops, rice at Re.one per kg, he said.

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidate G. K. Tamilkumaran also filed his nomination papers on Friday.

Former union minister and party leader Anbumani Ramadoss, who accompanied Mr. Tamilkumaran, accused the DMK government of failure to control the prices. People were agitated over the price situation and this would be reflected in the by-poll outcome.
