DMDK activist killed in row over defacing graffiti

A Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) worker died early on Monday after he was attacked, allegedly by a DMK activist, at Paruvathanahalli near Pennagaram on Sunday evening. One person has been arrested in this connection.

The police said that the incident was a fallout of a clash over defacing of graffiti on the wall of a residence. As advised by a police patrol, S. Asokan (28), Paruvathanahalli unit secretary of the DMDK, asked his neighbour K. Sekar (34) to deface the DMK graffiti on the wall of his residence. This resulted in a wordy duel, which soon turned physical. Asokan was injured on the head when he was attacked by Sekar.

As his condition worsened, he was referred to Salem Super Speciality Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Krishnagiri

Two workers of the DMDK were injured in an attack near Royakottai on Sunday. According to the police A. Anbu (38) hailing from Kelamangalam and C. Kaveri, district deputy secretary of the party hailing from Savalur, were injured in an attack, allegedly by a group belonging to the DMK.

Sources said that the duo had caught a man distributing cash to voters in the Kelamangalam area and informed the officials. This enraged the DMK workers.

Case registered

On the basis of a complaint lodge by Flying Squad Tahsildhar T. Jayalakshmi, Royakottai police registered a case against S. Periyasamy (50) hailing from Annasagaram in Dharmapuri district while he was distributing money to voters in the Sapjalpatti area under Veppanahalli constituency. A sum of Rs.1200 was found in his possession. Mr. Periyasamy is a conductor with the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation, Dharmapuri division, and office-bearer of a union, the police said.

Villupuram

DMK candidate for the Thirukkoilur Assembly constituency M. Thangam suffered a bleeding injury in the head in a stone pelting incident that occurred at Kandachipuram on Sunday night.

In a complaint Mr. Thangam stated that as it was well past 10 p.m. comedian Vadivelu, canvassing support for him, made sign languages to the waiting crowd. Certain mischievous elements threw footwear and stones at Vadivelu, and when he tried to protect Mr. Vadivelu a stone hit him on the head.
